'Banks of Lethe' is the new atmospheric single from prolific Ohio singer-songwriter/guitarist, Zack Fletcher. It is the fourth in a new collection called Ohio Reveries; songs inspired by his home and the places it has taken him. Each of the five new songs are being released as singles over the latter half of 2021 with the full collection and alternate versions to follow.
The River Lethe is the Greek mythological river of forgetfulness that runs through the cave of Hypnos (the god of sleep) and one of the five rivers of the underworld. In this song Lethe reflects the fog of the heart and mind, and the resulting discord when we can't see each other clearly.
lyrics
It flowed down the river today
Rushing on by never gave us the chance to say
We're sorry for your pain, but even then
I never expected to see a heart so thin
Don't lie to me
'Cause I know, we both know
You're drowning me to sleep
It washed up upon the banks today
Soaked with Lethe's water and time's decay
We've done all we can, but in your mind's contempt
You'll see a sign, but it's not the one you hoped would be sent
Don't lie to me
'Cause I know, we both know
You're drowning me to sleep
